Addison 1727-1897 reads: Professor of Logic in Glasgow University, 1752-87; Dean of Faculties, 1762-1764, and from February to 9th July 1788 (date of his death). Was offered, on 10th June 1785, the degree of LLD "which he, in terms of great affection and respect to the University, declined on account of his advanced time of life and other circumstances".
