William Bell
William Bell

William Bell was born in Garstang, Lancashire, in around 1789. His father's name was William.

William began studying at the University of Glasgow in 1833, taking classes in Logic, Ethics and Physics.

He matriculated for classes in Medicine in 1836, studying classes in Anatomy, Botany, Chemistry, Medicine and Surgery as part of his degree.

In 1841, William graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA, while continuing his studies in Medicine. This was not unusual for the time.

He was taught Anatomy by Professor James Jeffray who would later sign his degree certificate.

Over the course of his studies, William won prizes in Practical Anatomy, Botany, and Institutes of Medicine.

William Bell did not graduate with a medical degree from the University of Glasgow. In this era, a letter of recommendation from a professor would be sufficient to guarantee a career.

William died in 1870, at the age of 81.
