Biography of William Annan

William Annan who graduated MD in 1791 is thought to be the first American-born graduate. Annan was an apprentice of Benjamin Rush, who reformed the College of Philadelphia’s medical school and was one of the US Founding Fathers as a signatory of the Declaration of Independence. As graduation was not necessary for career advancement at this time, Annan was an exception.
