Biography of Mary Liston
Mary Forbes Liston (1876-1977) was a graduate of the University.
Born in India, Liston graduated MB ChB from the University in 1900, winning six prizes. She worked as a physician in Karachi for a short time before returning to Scotland to work at the Merryflats Hospital in Govan. She was subsequently awarded an OBE for her work in setting up an X-Ray unit there during the First World War.
Liston moved to Edinburgh in 1919 to take charge of the Women's VD clinic at the Royal Infirmary. She published a number of articles on venereal disease before her retirement in 1945.
