Biography of Ada Priscilla Nzimiro
Ada Priscilla Nzimiro (1923-1950) was a student at the University. She completed her studies in 1950, but died before she could collect her degree. She would have been the first woman from the Igbo region of Nigeria to graduate in Medicine.
Born in Nigeria, the daughter of a businesswoman, Nzimiro came to Glasgow in 1945 to study Medicine.
While at the University, Nzimiro was active in the Glasgow University's African Students' Union. She was the first woman to be an office-holder and a president of the society in 1947.
Nzimiro died on 22 March 1950 at the age of 27. According to medical records, Nzimiro died of pulmonary embolism at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
