Biography of Thomas Ewing Macintyre

Thomas Ewing MacIntyre graduated from the University with an MA on the 5th November 1949.

Thomas Ewing Macintyre was born on the 6th August 1918, in Goyaz (today known as Goiás), Brazil. His father, Archibald Macintyre, was a Missionary, and had worked as a Minister in Brazil since 1907, founding the Evangelical Church of Palmeiras de Goiás. Thomas was educated at Lyceu Goyano in Brazil, before starting Shawlands Secondary School in Glasgow.

Thomas joined the 156 Field Ambulance of the Royal Army Medical Corps in April 1939. He was mobilised on the 1st September 1939. By 1942, he had transferred to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and was working as a Radio Mechanic, then as an electrician. In 1944 he was commissioned to join the Royal Corps of Signals, where he worked as a Wireless Officer, a Signals Master, and a Line Construction Officer. Between November 1944 and March 1946 he was in India, working alongside the RAF.

Upon returning to Scotland, Thomas applied to study at the University of Glasgow. He was accepted, and in October 1946 matriculated to take classes in History, French, and Political Economics. He also undertook a course at the Baptist Theological College of Glasgow, with a view of joining his father in the profession of a Missionary. Between 1947 and 1948, Thomas studied Moral Philosophy, and Social Economics, before taking Intermediate Moral Philosophy and Zoology in his final year. He graduated on the 5th November, 1949.

Having graduated from University, Thomas took up the post of Minister in his hometown of Alva, Clackmannanshire.
