Biography of Ilya Molchanov

Ilya Molchanov joined the University in 1995 as Lecturer in the Department of Statistics. He became a Reader and was appointed to a personal professorship in Applied Probability in 1998.

Molchanov was born in 1962 in Pensa in Russia and studied at Kiev State University. After completing his PhD in probability theory in 1987, he worked at Kiev Technological Institute of Food Industry as an assistant professor. He then worked in Freiberg and Amsterdam before moving to Glasgow in December 1995.

In 2002, Molchanov left the University to take the Chair in Probability at the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Bern.
