Devendra Nath Joshi graduated BSc from the University in 1914. He was born at Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, son of Amar, a government service worker.

Joshi matriculated at the University in 1910, aged 20. Over the course of four years, he attended classes that included Electrical Engineering I and II.
