Biography of Heinrich Nikolaus Theodor Diebel

Heinrich Nikolaus Theodor Diebel came to the University in the summer of 1912 at the age of 20. He studied English Literature and Language for one year. During his time in Glasgow, Diebel resided in Strathisla, Uddingston.

Diebel was born in 1891 in Strassburg im Elsas to Philip Diebel, a civil servant.

In the winter semester of 1912/13, Diebel matriculated in the University of Marburg to study German and English Language and Literature. Diebel spent the following academic year in Berlin but returned to the University of Marburg thereafter. In August, 1914, shortly after the outbreak of World War One, Diebel was granted leave from the University until the summer of 1915 to serve with the Red Cross as a male nurse in the Labry Military Hospital. He continued to study until the summer of 1917 when he was sent to the Military but was granted a short pause in the autumn of that year to sit his oral doctoral exam. On 13 May 1921, Diebel received his PhD from the University of Marburg for his dissertation, "Die Formen der Wortwiederholung bei Herbort von Fritslar" (The forms of word repetition in Herbort's von Fritslar).

After his studies, Diebel moved to Sønderborg, Denmark.
