Biography of HRH Prince Tunku Imran

HRH Prince Tunku Imran was awarded the honorary degree of DUniv on Commemoration Day, 18th June 2014, in recognition of his work as head of the Commonwealth Games Federation, and his efforts in bringing the Commonwealth Games to Glasgow.

Imran was born in Malaysia and gained an LLB from the University of Nottingham. He also belongs to Gray’s Inn as a Barrister-At-Law.

He has had many roles within Malaysian companies including Managing Director of Haw Par Malaysia (1973-76); Chief Executive Officer, Antah Group of Companies (1977-2001); and Executive Chairman of Syarikat Pesaka Antah (2007-).

He has also had a long career in sports administration including: President of the World Squash Federation (1989-1996); President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (1998-); Chairman of the Sports Committee of the Commonwealth Games Federation (2003-); and President of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (2000-2001).

Prince Imran has also had a sporting career. He played sports at university, played cricket at an international tour to Hong Kong, was the Squash National Champion in 1973, and was member of the National Squash Team from 1973-76.

He has also been recipient of many awards and distinctions including the National Sports’ Leadership Award for 1990. HRH Prince Tunku Imran is the current President of the Commonwealth Games Federation as well as the Chairman of the Olympic Council of Malaysia.
