Biography of William Hugh Robba

William Hugh Robba, also known as Guglielmo Robba, came to the University in 1910 at the age of 21. As a member of the Science faculty, Robba took classes in Natural Philosophy, Mathematics, Naval Architecture, Ship Drawing, Engineering, and laboratory work for Engineering. He left the University in 1913 without graduating.

Robba was born in 1889 in Trieste, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, to Giovanni. The Italian-speaking family of eight resided at 24 Via Pasquale Besenghi in Trieste.

According to the New York State Census of 1925, Robba came to the US with his Scottish-born wife, Gisella, and their son, Rhoderick, around 1921, where Robba worked as a mechanical engineer. Robba became a US citizen, and lived in Queens, New York City.

William Hugh Robba died in 1964 in New York City.
