Biography of Arthur Piriya Nath Venkata Ramiah
Arthur Piriya Nath Venkata Ramiah (matriculated under Venkataramiah) enrolled at the University in 1912 to study Engineering.
He was born at Brahmapur, India, son of William Laughton, a district and sessions judge.
Ramiah's hometown was Madurai, when he enrolled at the University of Glasgow in 1912. Over the course of three years he took classes in Mathematics, Natural Philosophy, Chemistry, Engineering (laboratory and drawing) and Mining.
During the First World War, Ramiah applied to join the India Army Reserve of Officers.
In 1921 he was appointed to the Customs and Excise Department.
