Biography of Herbert Dunn
Lt Rev Herbert Dunn
Herbert Dunn graduated MA from the University of Glasgow in 1903 and BD in 1907.
He was born on 11 April 1882 in Glasgow, son of James Dunn, a merchant.
Dunn matriculated at the University of Glasgow in 1900, residing at 20 Park Circus in the West End of Glasgow. In 1907, Dunn received two prizes: one for his essay on Ecclesiastes, under Professor James Robertson, and the other in Church History, under Professor James Cooper.
Dunn graduated in 1907 with a Bachelor of Divinity and went on to be inducted as the parish minister in Stranraer, Galloway, serving until his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in in the 7th Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles).
Lieutenant Reverend Dunn died on 25 October 1915, in Alexandria, Egypt, of gastroenteritis. In 1916, a plaque was erected in the Stranraer parish church, now known as the Stranraer High Kirk, in honour of his memory. He is buried at the Alexandria (Chatby) Military and War Memorial Cemetery in Egypt and is memorialised at the Glasgow Necropolis.
