Biography of Frances Deans Young
Frances Deans Young graduated MB ChB from the University on 20 October 1924.
She was born in Glasgow on 28 October 1899, daughter of David John, a physician and surgeon, who was deceased at the time of Young's first matriculation at the University in session 1918/19.
Young resided at her home address of West Arthurlie House, Barrhead during her studies, and was awarded three 2nd Class Certificates in the Women’s Department; one for Practical Chemistry in 1919/20, the second for Diseases of the Throat and Nose in the summer session of 1923; and the third for Practice of Medicine in 1923/24.
Young went on to work at Mure Hospital, Nagpur, India, founded in 1896 by female medical missionaries of the United Free Church of Scotland. Today it is known as Mure Memorial Hospital and School of Nursing.
Young, who later returned to Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow, died on 19 November 1951.
