Biography of Clermont Marucheau
Clermont Marucheau matriculated at the University in 1830 to study an Arts course. He was born around 1808 on the island of St Lucia, son of Pierre (or Peter) Marucheau, owner of enslaved people who were forced to work on his sugar plantations Retraite and Black Bay. Later in 1844, he married Miss Felicité Geoffrion, the widow of his brother Peter, who had died in 1840.
Marucheau's brothers, Anthony and Jules, matriculated at the University after him in 1831 and 1837 respectively, with Jules graduating MD from the University in 1844.
