Biography of John Downie Bryce
John Downie Bryce was born in 1805, the son of Robert, a merchant in Trinidad. He matriculated at the University in 1816.
He was a partner in the firm Playfair, Bryce and Company until its dissolution in 1866. Bryce was also a partner in the firm Bryce, McMurrich and Company trading British dry goods to Canada. Whilst McMurrich resided in Toronto and dealt with the Canadian side of the business, Bryce remained in Glasgow to manage the British part. Bryce died in Glasgow, on 12 February 1895.
