Biography of William Dunlop Muir
William Dunlop Muir was enrolled at the University of Glasgow from 1895 to 1897 studying Science and Engineering, and returned again in 1900. Muir was born in Melbourne, Australia, son of James Muir, an engineer.
Muir enrolled aged 18 with his hometown recorded as Sydney. In his first year, he studied Mathematics, Engineering, Chemistry, and Engineering Drawing; and in his second year, he took classes in Surveying, Engineering II and Geology. Muir later returned to the University resuming his studies in 1900, taking classes in Chemistry, Chemistry Laboratory, Engineering Drawing and Natural Philosophy.
Muir died prematurely of pneumonia on 9 April 1901 in Glasgow. News of his death was published in the Sydney Morning Herald on 12 April 1901. Muir's body was repatriated to Australia, and buried in the family plot at Rookwood, Sydney.
