Isabella Henrietta Younger graduated MB ChB from the University in 1914.

She was born in Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia, in 1888, daughter of John, a landowner.

Younger had started her medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 1909, and continued her studies at the University of Glasgow in 1911. Having studied and passed exams in Botany, Zoology and Chemistry at Melbourne University, Faculty decided that she would be exempt from sitting these exams in Glasgow, and so she studied for three years and graduated in 1914 at the age of 25.

Younger achieved several class prizes throughout the academic year 1912-1913, winning second class certificates in Practical Physiology, Anatomy and Embryology.

Upon graduating in 1914, Younger remained in Scotland for several years practicing medicine in the deprived areas of Edinburgh and Glasgow. She spent time as a house physician at Queen's Hospital for Children in London, where she married John Ross, a Melbourne merchant, in 1916. They returned to Australia in 1917, and Younger studied child welfare briefly in Chicago.

Through her experiences in Scotland, Younger's interest in women’s and children’s health saw her publish two books, Feeding the Child - All Ages and The Happy Mother and Child upon her return to Melbourne.

Younger's passion for infant welfare saw her become a prominent figure in Victoria’s medical care system. She was a benefactor of the Victoria Clinic, which opened in Richmond, Victoria, in 1918. Furthermore she was heavily involved with the Victoria Baby Health Centres Association and is regarded as a central figure in Victoria’s Children’s Hospital, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Queen Victoria’s Hospital.

Isabella Henrietta Ross died in South Yarra, Melbourne, on 2 April 1956.
