Biography of Stuart White
Robert Rudolph Stuart White was born in Hong Kong, the son of Headley Graham, an accountant.
White passed his university entrance exams in 1925, and matriculated at the University the following year under the name of Stuart White. In his first session at the University he studied Mathematics, Natural Philosophy, Chemistry and Engineering Drawing.
His classes were held at the Royal Technical College, modern day Strathclyde University, which was affiliated with Glasgow and its students were able to matriculate and graduate with degrees from the University.
White also served as a member of the Officer Training Corps while at the University, resigning his commission in September 1930 to take up his travelling scholarship.
He graduated that year with a first class Honours degree in Electrical Engineering.
White served a five year apprenticeship with Mavor and Coulson Ltd and also completed a two year Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarship to study management methods at a variety of firms in Rugby, Manchester, Berlin and New York.
During the course of his career, White took on a variety of roles, including Management Consultant with Urwick Orr and Partners Ltd; Works Director with Mars, Ltd; and was Director of E.N.Bray Ltd until 1978.
White was an Associate of the Royal Technical College (ARTC) and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants(FIMC). He died in London in March 1981.
