Biography of Alec Bache Walker

Alec Bache Walker graduated BL from the University in 1940, and became principal medical officer in the Scottish Home and Health Department in Edinburgh from 1959-66.

Walker was born in Madrid in 1901, son of Reverend Robert Walker, a Church of Scotland Minister. He also lived in Italy before returning to Scotland for his education. Walker first graduated MBChB from Edinburgh University in 1925, and MD in 1928. He worked as a clinical tutor in medicine at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, and from 1935 he was as a regional medical officer in the Department of Health for Scotland in Glasgow.

In 1935 Walker enrolled at the University of Glasgow, obtaining a Diploma in Public Health in 1936, and graduating BL on 20 April 1940. He continued to work in the field of medicine as senior medical officer in Glasgow. During the Second World War, Walker's services to French servicemen were recognised when he was made a Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur.
