Biography of Eliezer Gelfer
Eliezer Gelfer enrolled at the University of Glasgow in 1919 to take classes in Medicine as part of the Triple Qualification, which he gained in 1923.
Gelfer was born in Utsyany, modern day Utena in Lithuania, son of Marcus, a draper and clothier. The family moved to the UK, where Elizers' brothers set up a tie and cap manufacturing company, A & J Gelfer, in Bridgetown, Glasgow.
Upon receiving his Triple Quliafication. LRCP, LRCS Edinburgh, LRFPS Glasgow, Gelfer worked as a General Medical Practitioner in the Gorbals, Glasgow, and obtained British citizenship in 1947. He was also a chazan (a Jewish cantor) in Ayr, where he retired. He died in 1972.
