Biography of Samuel Cameron
Samuel James Cameron (1878-1959) was a graduate of the University and Regius Professor of Midwifery from from 1934 to 1943. He was awarded an LLD in 1944.
Cameron was the son of Murdoch Cameron, the Regius Professor of Midwifery at the University from 1894 until 1926. He studied at the University, graduating MB, ChB in 1901, and became head of the gynaecological wards at Glasgow's Western Infirmary and, in 1920, Consulting Obstetric Surgeon at the city's Royal Maternity Hospital.
Cameron published several medical textbooks, including A Manuel of Gynaecology: For Students and Practitioners (1915). He was a foundation Fellow of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and a President of the Obstetrical Society of Glasgow.
