Biography of Robert Douglas Dobie
Robert Douglas Dobie enrolled at the University of Glasgow in 1879 and again in 1884 to study Medicine, attending classes in Pharmacology and Physiology.
Born in Hong Kong, China, son of Alexander, a merchant and sea captain, Dobie was joined at the University by his brother, Henry Edwin Newman Dobie, in 1879.
Dobie went on to obtain his medical qualification in England; Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS)in 1897 and Licentiate of the Society of Apothecaries (LSA) in 1896, studying at King's College London, Paris, New York, and Brussels from where he graduated MD in 1901.
Dobie later practiced as Chief Medical Officer and later Medical Adviser of the Law, Fidelity and General Accident Assurance Company. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and the Electrotherapy Society.
