Robert Dick
Biography of Robert Dick
Robert Dick was a tutor to the Master of Belhaven until October 1714, when he was elected a regent at the University. He was appointed to the new Chair of Natural Philosophy in 1721 after the abolition of the office of regent.
In 1749 the University purchased aparatus for Dick to enable him to carry out "electrical experiments", and he is reported to have been very interested in telescopes. His son, Robert Dick Jnr, succeeded him as Professor in 1751.
