Biography of John Sharp

John Sharp enrolled at the University in 1817, attending the Chemistry class of Robert Cleghorn, Lecturer of Chemistry from 1791 to 1818.

He is thought to be the same John Sharp Douglas - the Douglas, his mother's maiden name, an addition made in Germany - who was the original founder of the now global perfumery chain, Douglas.

Three of his grandsons, John, Alexander and George, attended the University in the 1880 and 1890s.
