Biography of James Venn Paterson Jr
James Venn Paterson Jnr was a student of Engineering at the University for seven years, from 1933 to 1938.
Paterson was born in Seattle on 15 June 1911, son of Glasgow graduate James Venn Paterson, a renowned Naval Architect and President of the Seattle Construction and Dry Dock Company. His mother was Marie Josephine Paterson (née Vandeventer).
Throughout his childhood, Paterson travelled frequently between the UK and the USA, making almost annual trips between 1926 and 1931. He also spent a period studying at Cambridge University before coming to Glasgow in 1933.
By 1940, James was again living in the family home in Seattle. He died in Washington State in February of 1972, 63 years old.
