Biography of Jane Smith Gardiner

Jane Smith Gardiner graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA in 1927. She was born on 12 October, 1906 in Portland, Oregon, daughter of John Gardiner, an engineer, who died before she enrolled at the University in 1924.

While at University, Jane studied Latin and French, also taking classes in Geography, Physics and History. Upon graduation in 1927, Gardiner remained in Scotland where she worked as a teacher. She was married in 1928 at Gourock to Alexander Walker, also a teacher.
