Biography of Florence Lilian Stewart
Florence Lilian Stewart graduated MA from the University in 1936. She was born to Scottish immigrants Jessie and John Stewart in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1911.
At the age of 18 Stewart left Toronto and enrolled at the University of Glasgow in 1930 to undertake a MA in Arts. Taking a variety of subjects ranging from English to Botany, Stewart graduated MA on 14 November 1936, going on to become a teacher. During her time at the University she received prizes in Italian Literature and Language, Scottish History and Literature, English and Moral Philosophy. It was also at the University of Glasgow that she met her future husband, Michael C Daly, (an economist). They were married in 1941 in Charlottesville, Virginia, in Daly's home country of the United States, where Florence worked as a teacher.
