Biography of Sir Richard Lodge
Sir Richard Lodge (1855-1936) was the University's first Professor of Modern History, from 1894 until 1899. He was awarded an LLD in 1905.
Lodge studied at Christ's Hospital and Balliol College, Oxford winning a string of academic prizes. He was elected a Fellow of Brasenose College and quickly established a reputation as one of the country's leading young historians. He spent five years in Glasgow, moving to the University of Edinburgh in 1899.
