Biography of Agatha Rachel Runciman
Agatha Rachel Runciman graduated MA from the University in 1902. She was born in Lahore, Pakistan on 4 January 1880. Her father, Ferguson, worked at that time in Lahore as the manager of a Locomotive Works, but died in Karachi in 1900, while Agatha was at the University.
Runciman matriculated at the University of Glasgow in 1899, aged 19. As part of her degree program she studied various subjects that included Latin, Political Economy, English, Logic and Education. During her time at the University, Agatha won two prizes. She was awarded a first class certificate in English Language and Literature by her teacher, Adolphus A Jack and a proxime accesserunt in the subject of Political Economy by Professor William Smart. Having studied at the University for 3 years, Runciman graduated MA on 22 April 1902.
Our records show that after obtaining her degree, Agatha worked as a teacher in Brussels, Belgium. She died in Connecticut, USA on 7 April 1961, aged 81.
