Biography of Edward Paterson Rutherford

Edward Paterson Rutherford graduated BSc from the University in 1912.

Rutherford was born in Tharsis, Southern Spain, son of William Rutherford, a manager for the Tharsis Sulphur & Copper Company.

Enrolling at the University in 1907, Rutherford attended classes in Chemistry, Electrical Engineering and Geology, winning a first class certificate in his Mining class, and a second class certificate in Geography.

During the First World War, Rutherford joined the 5th Highland Light Infantry of the British Army, reaching the Rank of Captain. He was killed in action. He is memorialised in the University's WWI Roll of Honour.
