Biography of Margaret Mercedes Morton

Mercedes Margaret Morton graduated from the University MB ChB in 1917. She was born in Tharsis, Huelva, daughter of a former graduate of the University, Alexander Young Morton, who worked for the Tharsis Sulphur & Copper Company.

Morton came to the University to study Medicine in 1911, graduating Mb ChB in 1917. She attended classes in Zoology, Anatomy, Practical Anatomy, Botany, Physics and Chemistry in which she obtained a first-class certificate. She also obtained a second-class certificate in Pathology.

After graduation, Morton practiced as a doctor in the UK, and married Philip John Owen, a chartered accountant, in Sheffield.
