Biography of James King
James King matriculated at the University in 1885 to study Engineering. Born in Valparaiso, Chile, his father, John, was a railway superintendent who headed up the operation of Dubs & Company of Glasgow, manufacturers of locomotives for the Chilean State Railways. King's home town of Carrizal Bajo was one of Chile's most important ports, where the country's second railway was being constructed in 1864.
King enrolled at the University for two years, attending classes in Engineering, Mathematics (Senior), Chemistry, and Civil Engineering and Drawing. In 1894 he returned to Chile.
