Biography of William Pegram Hamilton

William Pegram Hamilton enrolled at the University in 1881 for two years to study an Arts course. He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, USA, son of David, a tobacconist and merchant.

Hamilton was educated in Kentucky, before enrolling at the University in 1881, where he took classes in German, Latin, Logic and Mathematics. His cousin, Allan Pegram Gilmour, followed him to study at the University in 1890.

Hamilton returned to the USA in 1883 where he had a successful career as a manufacturer and banker, holding such positions as president of Clinton Woolen Manufacturing Company of Michigan; vice president of the National Bank of Commerce, and member of the Detroit Board of Commerce.
