Biography of Hsi Yu Yu

Hsi Yu Yu graduated with a Bachelors of Science (BSc) on 26 April 1916. He was born in Anhui, son of Wen Jui Yu, a tea merchant.

Yu first matriculated in 1913-14, aged 19, joining the Faculty of Science, after having undertaken a final exam at the preparatory department of Anhui High Provincial College. He completed his first and second year engineering science courses at the Royal Technical College, from 1889 the University of Glasgow recognised the diploma in engineering as exempting Technical College students from the first two years of the BSc course. In his third, Yu signed up for advanced classes in Mechanical Engineering, Natural Philosophy (Physics), and Chemistry.
