Biography of Ronald Pickvance
Ronald Pickvance was Richmond Professor of Fine Art from 1977 to 1984.
Born in Bolton, Pickvance studied at the University of Cambridge, graduating in 1953, and trained for two years at the Courtauld Institute of Art. He worked with the Arts Council of Great Britain from 1957 until his appointment in 1965 as a lecturer and curator of the University's art collections. He was lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Nottingham from 1966 until his appointment to the Richmond Chair.
Pickvance's main research interests are in French art from 1848 to 1914 and he has organized and catalogued numerous exhibitions.
