Biography of Tong Wei
Tong Wei graduated with a Bachelors of Science (BSc) on 16 NOvember 1911. He was born Foochow (Fuzhou), Fujian Province, son of Han, a director of Canton Railways.
Wei first matriculated in 1907-08, aged 18, joining the Faculty of Science. During his fours years he signed up for classes and advanced classes in Mathematics, Natural Philosophy (Physics), Chemistry, Mining, Engineering, Mineralogy, Metallurgy, and Electrical Engineering. During his study, Wei was awarded several prizes: A second class certificate for Geology (1908-9) and Geology part II (1909-10); a Prize for Mining, Class II (1909-10); and in the same year, a Certificate of Merit in Metallurgical Chemistry.
