Robert Findlay
In 1778 Robert Findlay (1721-1814) lost out to William Wight in the contest for the nomination to the Chair of Divinity at the University. He was finally appointed after Wight's death in 1782 and held the chair until 1814. He also served as a Dean of Faculty.
Born in Kilmarnock, Findlay studied at the University and graduated MA in 1737. He also studied at Leiden and possibly at the University of Edinburgh. He became a minister in 1744 and was Minister of St David's Church (the Ramshorn Kirk) in Glasgow from 1756 until his appointment to the University Chair. In 1776 the University conferred on him the degree of DD.
