Biography of William Young Turner

William Young Turner graduated MD CM from the University in 1875, and MD in 1877.

He was born in Upolu, Samoa, son of George Turner LLD. William enrolled at the University in 1868, aged 17, in the Faculty of Arts, concentrating on the study of Medicine from 1871.

After graduation, William followed in his father's footsteps as a missionary of the London Missionary Society. First as a practitioner in Papua New Guinea; a Chaplain on the Crum Ewing Estates in Demerara, Guyana; and finally as a United Presbyterian Missionary in Jamaica.

His children, Thomas Lindsay and Mary Katharine later enrolled at the University of Glasgow in 1902 and 1906 respectively.
