Biography of Robert George Nisbet

Robert George Nisbet graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA 1894. He was also a member of staff at the University, being listed as ‘Preliminary examiner in Arts, Sciences and Medicine’ in 1901. Robert George Nisbet became a lecturer in the Humanities and lectured at the University for over 35 years, until 1942.

Robert was born 6th May 1872 at the Free Church schoolhouse, Strathaven, Lanarkshire. His parents were Robert Nisbet and Grace Morton Nisbet and he was the youngest of a large family. The family moved to Govan between 1881-1891 and in 1888 he came to the University of Glasgow to study classes such as Greek, Latin, and Mathematics. He graduated in 1894.

Robert George Nisbet made an English translation of a German book: Primitive Christianity and It's Non-Jewish Sources and this was published in 1912. In the 'Translator's Preface' he mentions the help of his wife, Henrietta nee Hardeland, who was born in Germany.

Robert Nisbet died aged 82 in 1955 in Dunbartonshire.
