Biography of William Ferrier Martin
William Ferrier Martin graduate MA from the University in 1882. Born at Carron Hall, Jamaica, son of the Reverend James Martin, a missionary.
Martin enrolled at the University in 1876, aged 16. Upon graduation in 1882, Martin attended a summer class in Botany at the University in 1883, before following in his father's footsteps as a United Presbyterian Missionary to Rajputana, India. After a period of ten years in India, Martin, using his language skills in Hindi and cultural knowledge, returned to Jamaica to oversee the Mission of two East Indian Churches and Schools for the education of East Indian children, while ministering at Ebenezer Church.
