Biography of Mary Campbell Biggar
Mary Campbell Gordon, nee Biggar (1883-1965) was the first woman, and the fourth person, to be awarded a Diploma in Education by the University.
Campbell was born in Polmont, the daughter of a schoolmaster. She matriculated at the University in 1900 and graduated MA first class in French and German in 1903. She won a number of class prizes in both French and German during the course of her undergraduate degree.
In April 1904, Campbell obtained a Diploma in Education with Distinction in French and German. According to the General Council Register, she became a teacher in Polmont. She married George S Gordon in 1909.
