Biography of John Gillies
John Gillies, who graduated MA from the University of Glasgow in 1764, taught Greek Class at the University during the illness of Professor James Moor.
Gillies was a travelling tutor to the sons of Lord Hopetoun. He became a prominent historian, serving as the King's historiographer for Scotland, and was author of History of Ancient Greece in 1786.
