James Carmichael Watson 
Biography of James Carmichael Watson
Ordinary Seaman James Carmichael Watson was a lecturer in Celtic at the University from 1935 until he succeeded his father as Professor of Celtic at the University of Edinburgh in 1938. During the war he served aboard the destroyer HMS Jaguar.
Watson was one of 190 men who lost their lives on 26 March 1942 when Jaguar was sunk by a German U-Boat off Sidi Barrani in Egypt.
