Biography of Alastair Allan Stewart Bowman
Flying Officer Alastair Allan Stewart Bowman of the RAFVR was born in Princeton, New Jersey, USA on the 6th of April 1923. His father, Archibald Bowman, was Professor of Logic at Princeton University and was also a Professor at Glasgow University. His mother was Mabel Stewart. He was the brother of Archibald and Mary Bowman.
He attended the High School of Glasgow and studied for one term at the University of Glasgow, before joining the RAF in October 1941 and serving in Coastal Command. He died on 4 November 1943 when his Catalina aircraft crashed into the sea.
Correspondence between the Bowman children and their parents is held by the University of Glasgow Archives and Special Collections.
