The etching/aquatint of a mountain landscape was the title illustration to Thomas Henry Brooke's The History of the Island of St Helena, from its discovery by the Portuguese to the year 1806... published in London in 1808.

The pyramidal peak in the background of the image is probably Diana's Peak, the highest summit on the Atlantic island.

Thomas Henry Brooke served as governor of St Helena from 1821 to 1823.
