Rose Monteiro was the English wife of Brazilian physician and botanist Joaquim Monteiro Caminhoá (1836–96). Delagoa Bay: Its Natives and Natural History, published in 1891, documents her experiences when accompanying her husband on a plant-collecting trip to south-east Africa. The book was illustrated by A. B. & E. C. Woodward.

Delagoa Bay is now known as Maputo Bay.

Landolphia monteiroi is now known as Ancylobotrys petersiana. This is a prickly climbing shrub with scented white or cream flowers and edible yellow or light orange fruit. Its geographical range is Kenya to South Africa (Natal and Transvaal) and Madagascar.
