Biography of Amasa P Coy

Amasa P Coy matriculated at the University in 1832-33 to study Medicine under Dr James Jeffray.

He was born at New Brunswick, Canada, son of Amasa Coy, a merchant, banker, and planter.

Coy undertook medical courses at New York under Dr Alex N Stevens between 1831 and 1832, before attending the University of Glasgow and the Glasgow Royal Infirmary between 1833 and 1834.

Coy returned as a medical doctor and surgeon, establishing his medical practice in Fredericton. In 1836, Coy sold his office and drug store on Regent Street to Dr Henry Hartt. Coy died, prematurely, at Fredericton, on 30 March 1837, aged 23.
