Biography of Archibald Campbell of Blythswood

Archibald Campbell of Blythswood (1761-1838) was Rector of the University from 1807 to 1811. He was Dean of Faculties 1802-1804, 1815-1817, 1819-1821 1823-1825 1827-1829 and 1833 to 1837.

Campbell was a staunch Tory who was MP for the Clyde Burghs, 1821 to 1830. In 1821 he built Blythswood House on the Renfield estate, west of Braehead.
